2013 in review

It’s that time of year again, a review of my year as a blogger. Albeit one you don’t hear from all that often! Check it out, it’s got all the highlights of the year. Oh, then go and read a couple of posts that are new to you!

Happy New Year!

Here’s an excerpt:

A San Francisco cable car holds 60 people. This blog was viewed about 2,100 times in 2013. If it were a cable car, it would take about 35 trips to carry that many people.

Okay, so it’s been FOREVER since I last sat down and typed out a post for you all. I have several started (most of them to finish up that Europe trip from a year and a half ago!), but just never finished any of them. You see, I’ve been sort of busy doing something big and exciting.

I went and got married!!!

563680_468477896599662_941627389_nOn October 13 Mike and I took the plunge and with our family and friends around us tied the knot. It took just over 9 months of planning and was over in the blink of an eye. Would I change anything about it? No. Even all the DIY stuff I took on for it (had to try to slash the budget somewhere!). What did I DIY? Let’s see. There were the flowers (all hand made from paper), the cake, signs for the “Guest Book,” signs for the bathroom baskets, the bathroom baskets and the mad-libs and activity sheets for all of the guests. I think that was it, but I’m very possibly missing something. Oh wait, the wine. I DIYed the wine too ๐Ÿ™‚

994939_468477916599660_1135976586_nWe had our minister Linda marry us. She did a wonderful job! I had my little Sofie stand as my flower girl (and she stole the show!). Standing with me were my besties Joy (MOH), Sarah, Lis and Hegla. Mike had his best friends, brother and nephew (Chris, Matt, Glenn, Tom and Deshawn) stand with him. Little miss M (who is not so little anymore!) even did our reading for us. Yep, we are well loved ๐Ÿ™‚

Thanks to everyone that came out to celebrate with us! Now for a few photos thanks to our wonderful photographer Jennifer Galliot.

A Favorite Canadian Treat

As everyone knows there is nothing quite like the joy of a box of Girl Guide cookies.ย  Twice a year the Girl Guides of Canada sells cookies – and right now we’re in the Classic cookie season. If you’re not sure what that means – it means half the box is chocolate sandwich cookies, and the other half vanilla!

gg cookies

As someone who has been very involved in Guiding since childhood, for those of you who don’t know I started as a brownie when I was six years old, selling these cookies is one of the most recognizable signs of spring to me, sort of like that first crocus you see in the grass.ย  Now that I’m a leader I see the benefits of selling these cookies far more so than I ever did as a girl.ย  As a leader I see how this money goes to providing programing and opportunities to the girls – it helps us get kids who can’t afford to be there in Guiding, it lets us take them on several camps a year, and it lets us help them complete badges and challenges.

Right now I am selling cookies at $5 a box.ย  Please support Girls all over Canada by buying a box of cookies.ย  I know that not all of you can buy from me, in that case I strongly encourage you to buy at least one box from a local unit.ย  Trust me, not only will you enjoy the cookies, you’ll be supporting young girls across the country.ย  Thanks for your support, and enjoy the treat ๐Ÿ™‚

Europe Photo Album

I know that everyone has been waiting with baited breath for the Europe posts and I just haven’t got them up yet. You see, I’ve been busy working on the photo album that Mike and I now get to add to our bookcase so we can look back the trip whenever we want. Selfish yes, but I’m not going to apologize. That said, to make it up to you, I’m going to share the photo book with you right now. All you have to do is click right here, or on the picture of the cover below,ย and enjoy.

Forty-two Years Strong

Forty-two years ago today, my parent got married. Yes, they’ve been together that long!

mom and dad wedding

Don’t they look happy?

All these years, two now adult children, and several dogs later you can still tell that they love each other and would do anything for the other. I can only hope that Mike and I have a marriage as strong as theirs has been.

Dad can’t keep his eyes off of Mom!

I love you Mom and Dad! Happy 42nd Anniversary ๐Ÿ™‚

I know this is not new news to many of you, but it’s still one of the most exciting things to happen in my life. That and it still doesn’t always seem real, but I know it is . . .ย

Picture 001

I said yes!

That’s right, on January 1 at approx 1230 am Mike asked me to be his wife, and I quite happily accepted ๐Ÿ™‚

We’ve set a date, and chosen a venue. I’ve bought a dress and we’ve decided on colors. Mike has been checking out tuxedos and we’ve been planning up a storm. We have so much left to finalize, and so many things still to tackle but we’ve made the biggest decision of all –ย ย we have decided to spend the rest of our lives together.

You know what? I can’t wait ๐Ÿ™‚

**I will not be posting detailing about the wedding until AFTER it has happened. We want the night to be magical, special and a bit of a surprise to all of our guests. I hope you understand and I will share all of our joy once the day has passed.**

New Apart . . . wait, HOUSE!

**I wrote this post back in October and forgot to publish it! Well, now you can finally see the house!**

Okay, so maybe it isn’t exactly new at this point since I moved in back in June, but I haven’t done the post yet . . . let’s use our imaginations and pretend that today is July 15th and we’ve just finished unpacking all of my stuff and getting our house set up. Ready to go on the tour with me? We’ll start upstairs;

The dinning room, love the built in for wine glasses and uncommonly used items.

From the dinning room you can look straight down to the entrance (we are a split level home).

This is our living room. Huge windows means lots of light, which means I’m super happy ๐Ÿ™‚

Our surprisingly spacious spare room. Yes, we are willing to welcome visitors ๐Ÿ™‚ There is a bathroom beside it, but didn’t feel we needed photos of it!

The kitchen. I seem to spend a fair amount of time in here – I do love to cook and bake after all!

Now onto the basement – I chose not to photograph the bathroom and laundry room, so we only get to visit two places;

The master bedroom. Again, nice large windows, lots of space and a pretty good sized closet.

My crafting/sewing room/library. I LOVE this room. I can go down here, get creative, make something, pick a book/magazine to read.
